Türkiye has highlighted its plans for hosting the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) during an international environmental forum launched on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Istanbul to mark the World Environment Day.
The Global Zero Waste Forum attracted more than 7,000 participants from over 180 countries, including government officials and mayors, according to the organiser, the Zero Waste Foundation.
The three-day event, themed “The Road to Antalya: Zero Waste as Climate Action”, is aimed at enhancing international cooperation ahead of the COP31 summit later this year.

Organisers said discussions at the forum would focus on the role of zero-waste policies in cutting greenhouse gas emissions, preserving natural resources and advancing sustainable development.
President of the Zero Waste Foundation and COP31 High-Level Climate Champion, Samed Agirbas, said the forum was expected to generate practical contributions to the COP31 process and help shape future climate action models.
Türkiye will host COP31 in the southern resort city of Antalya from Nov. 9 to Nov. 20 and assume the conference presidency, with delegates from nearly 200 countries expected to participate.
