The Arnold Palmer Cup is tied, 6-6, after Day 1 at Tralee Golf Club in Barrow, Ireland.
The U.S. and International teams played 12 mixed fourball (better ball) matches Friday and will next have a double session on Saturday. Day 2 will consist of 12 foursomes (alternate shot) and then 12 mixed foursomes.
The International team got out to an early lead to start the 30th edition of the biennial event, before the U.S. won thee of the final four matches.
The Arnold Palmer Cup consists of 24 U.S collegiate players (12 men, 12 women) against 24 Internationally born collegians. The teams are split between 12 automatic selections and 12 committee or captain’s picks. At least one male and one female on each team must come from a non-Division I team or international university.
The U.S. leads the series, 15-13-1, but the Internationals have won four of the last seven since the competition was expanded to include International and female competitors.
