Uefa U19s Euros: Spain beat Germany to win final in Wrexham

Spain secured the Uefa Men’s Under-19 Championship for the 10th time with a 2-0 victory over Germany at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground.

Goals from Hugo Lopez and Mario Rivas saw Spain retain the trophy they claimed in 2024.

Paco Gallardo’s side have been the standout side during the eight-team tournament staged over two weeks in north Wales.

They scored scored 19 goals in their five games without conceding a goal.

Germany’s Otto Stange was twice denied by goalkeeper Manu Gonzalez while Spain’s Daniel Yanez fired a free-kick wide of the post.

Lopez’s clever lob came back off the crossbar but the Villarreal forward was not to be denied.

After Yanez’s deflected shot came back off the post, Lopez netted from close range to give Spain a 1-0 lead just before the break.

They doubled the advantage three minutes into the second half through Rivas’ header from Yanez’s corner.

Victory completed a double for Spain, whose women’s team also beat Germany in the Uefa Women’s Under-19 Championship final in Bosnia-Herzegovina earlier on Saturday.

The two men’s finalists – along with beaten semi-finalists Ukraine and Croatia – had already secured their spots in the 2027 Fifa U20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

Denmark beat Italy on penalties earlier in the week to book their place in the inter-confederation play-offs to reach that tournament.
