UN-PAF Appoints UNIMAID Registrar Borno Director

The United Nations Peace Ambassadors Foundation (UN-PAF), through its Office of the Africa High Commissioner, has appointed the Registrar of the University of Maiduguri, Ahmad Alhaji Lawan, as its Director for Borno State, Nigeria.

The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Africa High Commissioner, UN-PAF, and obtained by LEADERSHIP on Wednesday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The Foundation said the appointment was based on Lawan’s academic, professional and administrative experience and his capacity to provide leadership for its activities in the state.

As Borno State director, Lawan is expected to provide strategic leadership, administrative coordination, institutional representation and programme development for the Foundation.

His responsibilities will cover initiatives relating to peacebuilding and conflict prevention, dialogue and reconciliation, humanitarian and community development, youth and women empowerment, human rights, education and professional development.

He is also expected to support programmes focused on sustainable development, community resilience, stakeholder engagement and initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Lawan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education, a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Science in International Relations.

He is a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management and the Association of Nigeria Universities Professional Administrators, as well as a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administrators.

In the new role, he will be expected to work with UN-PAF leadership, Peace Ambassadors, government institutions, traditional and religious leaders, educational institutions, civil society organisations, development partners, youth and women organisations and local communities.

The Foundation said the appointment would strengthen its efforts to promote peacebuilding, humanitarian action, community development and resilience in Borno State.

The Office of the Africa High Commissioner expressed confidence that Lawan’s administrative experience and professional background would support the effective implementation of the Foundation’s programmes in the state.

UN-PAF subsequently called on its officials, Peace Ambassadors, representatives and strategic partners to cooperate with the new Borno State director in the discharge of his responsibilities.
