The South African Federation of Trade Unions says illegal migration is not the root cause of the country’s economic challenges and that the President Cyril Ramaphosa government must come clean.
The union in statement signed by its General Secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi, is of the view that structural problems faced by South Africans are due to faulty economic models which have left the majority poor
The union was reacting to Monday’s address by President Ramaphosa, and called on the government to rein in individuals or group harassing or attacking foreigners under the guise of immigration raids, as well as the arrest and prosecution of all those responsible for acts of intimidation, assault, extortion, vigilantism and violence.
