American actor, director, and producer George Clooney will be honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
The festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera, announced the decision, praising Clooney as a highly versatile and charismatic creator. Barbera highlighted Clooney’s ability to balance major commercial success with a deep commitment to meaningful storytelling and global humanitarian advocacy.
Clooney, a frequent participant at the Venice Film Festival, has premiered several major films at the venue over his career, including Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), The Ides of March (2011), Gravity (2013), and Jay Kelly (2025).
In an official statement, the Oscar-winning filmmaker expressed his gratitude, calling the Golden Lion a tremendous honor and naming Venice his favorite film festival. Outside of his cinematic achievements, Clooney has spent nearly two decades leading humanitarian initiatives, including advocacy for Darfur and serving as a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
The 2026 Venice Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 2 to September 12, with the complete film lineup set to be announced on July 23.
