Chigul Opens Up On Divorce, Healing And Finding Happiness At 50

Nigerian comedian and actress, Chioma Omeruah, popularly known as Chigul, has opened up about her divorce, healing journey and what it means to embrace life on her own terms.

Speaking on an episode of the podcast Transparent, the entertainer reflected on life after divorce, sharing personal lessons on self-awareness, emotional healing and relationships.

Chigul revealed that despite being 50, she still feels youthful and fulfilled, challenging societal expectations about age, marriage and being single. She also addressed the stigma often attached to divorced women and the pressure placed on people to conform to traditional timelines for marriage and relationships.

The actress stressed that healing is essential before entering a relationship, noting that “two shattered people cannot come together and make a home.” According to her, unresolved emotional wounds often affect relationships and marriages.

She explained that people are raised differently and bring varying experiences and perspectives into relationships, making self-work and personal growth necessary for healthy partnerships.

“When we are broken, we hurt ourselves and others,” she said, adding that marriage is not the responsibility of one person but requires commitment, effort and emotional maturity from both partners.

The episode also explored modern dating, age-gap relationships and the expectations many people carry into marriage, with Chigul’s candid reflections resonating with listeners online.
