While LIV Golf moves to put the post-Public Investment Fund pieces together and continue operations beyond 2026, the league was dealt another potential blow this week.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the DP World Tour has informed LIV players that it is highly unlikely they would be granted conditional releases for 2027.
In February, the European circuit granted conditional releases to eight LIV members including, Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig and Elvis Smylie, to play both LIV and the DP World Tour without being subjected to the conflicting event rules when they participate in LIV events. In May, Jon Rahm was added to the list of LIV players granted conditional releases for 2026.
Under the original agreement, the conditional releases were not precedent-setting, and the release conditions were specific to each member.
But as LIV Golf, which has agreed to a term sheet with a lead investor, according to league CEO Scott O’Neil, to continue playing in ’27 and beyond, works toward a new model, the source said the extra support and effort LIV is seeking from their players means the landscape has changed significantly from the start of this year.
