Home Affairs scales down  Musina repatriation centre’s operations

The Home Affairs  Department has started to scale down operations at the Musina temporary repatriation centre in Limpopo.

The Department’s Chief Director Albert Matsaung says they have processed just under 2000 undocumented migrants since the beginning of this month.

Matsaung says they have also reduced their work force at the repatriation centre.

He says, “Since we started with this project, we have processed such a sizeable number of people and we have seen numbers gradually decreasing especially now since we started the month of August.”

Matsaung adds, “Our numbers started decreasing, I think the guidance that we got from IMC (Inter-Ministerial Committee) was that the structure has to be downscaled so that they can then accommodate plus minus 1 500 people at a go.”
