Lagos delivers 362 roads, vows to sustain infrastructure renewal – EnviroNews

The Lagos State Government completed 362 roads spanning 347.17km and added 19,525 square metres of office space in the past one year, reinforcing infrastructure renewal and economic growth.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr. Olufemi Daramola, and his Works counterpart, Mr. Adekunle Olayinka, gave the figures at the state’s 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing in Ikeja on Monday, June 1.

Daramola said that the government was preparing 12 of the newly-completed road projects for inauguration, while construction activities continued on 181 road and bridge projects.

He said the state was committed to delivering strategic transport infrastructure aimed at reducing travel time and stimulating economic activities.

According to him, some of the notable projects delivered are  the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge, Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road in Agege, and Abaranje Road in Alimosho.

“That we delivered these projects despite economic challenges demonstrates the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and fulfilment of promises made to Lagos residents across communities and sectors,” Daramola said.

He added that the Lagos State Public Works Corporation intervened in construction of about 957 roads from June 2025 to date, bringing the total number since 2019 to 4,209 roads spanning over 506km.

Daramola also disclosed that Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency recorded 300 per cent increase in revenue generation and was facilitating deployment of approximately 30,000km of fibre duct infrastructure across the state.

Olayinka, who spoke on public infrastructure, said that the government added 19,525 square metres of office accommodation through completion of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex and  the Revenue House within the Alausa Secretariat.

He said the projects were designed to address inadequate office accommodation, reduce dependence on rented facilities, and improve efficiency, productivity and overall service delivery in  public service.

“The administration continues to prioritise infrastructure renewal and maintenance under the THEMES Plus Agenda and Lagos State Development Plan 2052 to drive growth, employment opportunities and improved living standards,” he said.

Olayinka said that the government had intensified efforts to complete inherited projects while initiating new infrastructure programmes to strengthen governance, healthcare delivery, educational development, security architecture and socio-economic advancement.

He listed major projects under construction by his office to include Massey Children’s Hospital, Ojo; a general hospital, a psychiatric hospital and rehabilitation centre, and educational facilities within Lagos state-owned tertiary institutions.

According to him, the administration adopted routine maintenance and continuous rehabilitation strategies to preserve infrastructure quality, extend asset lifespan and guarantee sustainability of government investments across sectors.

“In Lagos State, we emphasise routine maintenance and continuous rehabilitation to ensure infrastructure assets remain functional, sustainable and capable of delivering long-term value to residents and government,” Olayinka said.

He added that the office was supervising strategic justice and security projects, including magistrates’ courts renovation, police facilities construction and the building of Judiciary Sheriff Warehouse in Ikorodu.

The two officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing ongoing projects, attracting investment partnerships and delivering sustainable infrastructure capable of supporting economic growth and making Lagos globally competitive.
