The Cross River State Police say they have commenced an investigation after a woman, Blessing Ayebe, was found dead inside a church toilet in Calabar.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Sunday that the deceased was discovered around 9 p.m. last Monday inside the toilet facility of a church in the Ikot Ansa area of Calabar Municipality.
Our correspondent gathered that her family raised the alarm after she was declared missing.
On Tuesday, July 1, her daughter, Peace Ayebe, reported the matter at the Federal Housing Police Station in Calabar.
She said she was informed of her mother’s disappearance by her brother, Saviour Ayebe.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the incident on Sunday in Calabar, adding that the case is under investigation.
“The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy to determine the cause of death. No suspect has been identified or arrested at this stage, as there is presently no evidence of foul play.
“Investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated as they unfold,” ASP Eitokpah said.
According to police sources, Ayebe attended a service at the church on Saturday, June 28, but did not return home after the programme ended.
The sources also said the investigation was ongoing.
