No fewer than four Almajiris (Qur’anic school pupils) were reported to have died in Kano after eating food suspected to have been contaminated.
The National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, the affected students were from Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya, Kadage Sharifai, Ungoggo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The statement explained that the affected students were rushed to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital following suspected food poisoning for medical attention.
“The students, however, reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday night, August 16th, 2026,” the statement said.
The statement did not disclose the nature of the food consumed or the substance suspected to have caused the poisoning, leaving the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths unclear.
It further stated that the remains of the deceased were subsequently buried after approval was obtained from the District Head (Dagaci) and the Divisional Police Officer.
The police have yet to issue an official statement concerning the incident as of the time of filing this report.
