Transcorp Hotels graduates 64 women entrepreneurs

By Arinze Nwafor

Transcorp Hotels Plc has graduated the 16th cohort of its Business Empowerment Programme for Women, reaffirming its commitment to promoting economic inclusion through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.

The hospitality company said the programme, launched in 2016 in partnership with ACE Charity, has so far empowered 64 young women with tailoring, business management, financial management, marketing and customer service skills to help them build sustainable livelihoods.

According to a statement by the company, beneficiaries undergo six months of practical training before receiving sewing machines and other tools to enable them to establish their businesses immediately after graduation.

It added that the initiative forms part of its flagship sustainability programmes aimed at creating long-term social, economic and environmental impact.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Hotels Plc, Mrs Uzoamaka Oshogwe, said the company remained committed to investing in women and supporting entrepreneurship.

Oshogwe said, “We believe hospitality goes beyond the experiences we create within our hotels. Through this programme, we are investing in young women, supporting entrepreneurship, creating social and economic impact, and promoting sustainability. We are proud of the 16th cohort graduands and look forward to the businesses they will build, the jobs they will create, and the positive impact they will have on their communities and Nigeria’s economy.”

The company also said the programme promotes circular fashion by repurposing pre-used hotel bedding for practical tailoring training, reducing waste while encouraging sustainable practices.

It noted that the Business Empowerment Programme for Women reflects its broader commitment to empowering communities and driving inclusive economic growth through corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Transcorp Hotels added that it would continue to support programmes that create opportunities for women while advancing sustainability and entrepreneurship across Nigeria.
