UBTH pharmacists highlight role in patient care, medication safety

Pharmacists at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital have highlighted their growing role in improving patient care, medication safety, health education, research and innovation.

The pharmacists made this known on Friday during activities marking the 2026 World Pharmacists Day at the hospital, with the theme, “Empowering pharmacists for healthier futures.”

Led by the Head of the Pharmacy Department, Dr Edith Yovwin, the team paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof Idia Ize-Iyamu, to highlight the indispensable role of pharmacists in optimising patient care and ensuring medication safety.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the CMD, the DCMAC, Research and Ethics, Prof Adebola Ehizele, thanked the pharmacists for the engagement.

Ize-Iyamu commended pharmacists for their contributions to quality healthcare services globally and particularly within UBTH.

The visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the contributions of pharmacists to quality healthcare delivery, health education, research and innovation.

World Pharmacists Day is celebrated annually on September 25 to honour the contributions of pharmacists to global health, medication safety and patient care.
