Women have topped the number of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise going on in Adamawa State, organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The local governments’ registration documents made available to The PUNCH by the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Nura, showed that women, as of July 2nd, 2026, registered a total of 22,527, while men registration number stand at 20,853, bringing the total to 43,380 last week 2nd July 2026.
The REC, who was the Yobe state chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists in 1994, told The PUNCH exclusively that the CVR exercise was organised to ensure that those who clocked the age of 18 after the last general elections participate in the forthcoming poll.
“The CVR exercise’s main purpose is to ensure that some youths who could not participate in the last general elections due to their age are allowed to participate after meeting the constitutional provisions of 18 years before voting in an election.
“We are supposed to end the exercise on the 7th, July, 2026, but I still believe the headquarters may approve the continuation, since the elections are still far from now,” he said.
Nura added that the CVR exercise also enables those who change their residences to transfer their voter’s card to their new places, and those who lost their voter’s card get them replaced during the exercise.
He stated further that the CVR exercise was designed to ensure that Nigerians who are eligible to vote participate in the general elections to vote for their leaders.
The REC called on the political parties in the state to mobilise their members who are yet to obtain their voter’s card to take advantage of the exercise and register.
Nura assured Nigerians that the commission is prepared to conduct one of the best general elections in the country.
