TCN Completes Repair On Alaoji-Owerri Lines, Restores Power To Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said on Wednesday, that it has completed repairs on the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2 and restored power to parts of Imo, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

TCN said the two lines were re-energised at 7:05 p.m. and 7:06 p.m., respectively.

The lines had tripped on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

TCN’s general manager Public Affairs Ndidi Mbah, stated that after identifying the fault location, the company’s maintenance crew mobilised immediately and carried out repair works.

The company said Line 1 was repaired and returned to service at about 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, enabling partial restoration of bulk electricity to Imo State, Yenagoa in Bayelsa State and parts of Ahoda in Rivers State.

To allow safe repairs on Line 2, TCN said it temporarily de‑energised Line 1 because the close proximity of the two high‑voltage lines risked electromagnetic induction that could endanger maintenance personnel.

TCN added that the temporary outage of Line 1 was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and undertaken with the concurrence of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).

Once both lines were repaired and re-energised, the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor returned to full operation and EEDC and PHEDC were able to offtake full load for distribution to customers.

TCN thanked affected consumers for their patience and apologised for the inconvenience, saying it remains committed to maintaining a reliable transmission network for the evacuation and delivery of bulk electricity.
