Thirteen residents of Efeyi Community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, who were killed by suspected armed herdsmen, were laid to rest in an emotional mass burial amid tears.
Grieving family members, friends and sympathisers gathered early on Saturday to bid the victims farewell.
The victims, laid in white caskets, were buried after prayers were offered.
A resident of Otukpo Local Government Area, who identified himself as Ebute Samson, told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the community had never witnessed such a deadly attack.
He called on the Federal Government to establish an Army barracks in the area.
“Tears were flowing like water in a river. We bid them goodbye. Government must do something about the security of Benue South as quickly as possible. The government should locate an Army barracks in Benue South,” he said.
Recall that the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, when suspected armed herdsmen invaded Efeyi Ugboju Community in Otukpo Local Government Area, killing 13 farmers.
The spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, had confirmed the killing of the 13 farmers during the attack.
